
| One of the "Madres de Plaza de Mayo," who march every Thursday outside the President's palace in Buenos Aires. Like many of the mothers, she wears a photograph of her lost child -- one of the more than 10,000 people who were "disappeared" by the military junta, during Argentina's 10-year-long "dirty war." Most of the "desaparecidos" were young people, abducted, tortured, murdered, and disposed of in clandestine graves or tossed into the sea. Her sign reads, "Ricardo Abelino Almarez, born June 20, 1950, disappeared July 7, 1976." |
